Present Continuous: Questions Exercises

To form a yes/no question in the present continuous, move the form of be (am, is, are) before the subject: "She is working" becomes "Is she working?" "They are coming" becomes "Are they coming?" For Wh- questions, place the question word at the start, then the form of "be," then the subject: "What are you doing?" "Where is he going?" "Why are they laughing?" In both question types, the -ing verb always comes at the end. With "I," use "am": "Am I doing this correctly?"

A common mistake is using do or does in present continuous questions. "Does she working?" and "Do they playing?" are both wrong — "do" and "does" belong to the present simple, not the present continuous. The correct forms are "Is she working?" and "Are they playing?" Another error learners make is forgetting to move "be" before the subject: "She is working?" with rising tone may work in speech, but in writing and exams, the correct word order matters. For negative questions, add "not" after the subject or use a short form: "Isn't she coming?" or "Is she not coming?"
