The key to improving is to identify the context first. Ask yourself: is this about time, place, movement, or a fixed phrase? Time prepositions follow the size pattern (in for months and years, on for days, at for times). Place prepositions depend on whether the location is an enclosed space, a surface, or a specific point. Dependent prepositions must simply be learnt as part of the verb, adjective, or noun they belong to — there is no rule to predict them. Practising with mixed exercises builds the flexibility needed for Cambridge B1 Preliminary and B2 First examinations, where prepositions from every category appear together.

preposition + noun/phrase (time, place, movement, or dependent)

- 4.We don't depend on anyone for financial help. (dependent — verb + preposition)
- 5.The train arrives at platform 6 at quarter to nine. (place + time)
