To do well, remember the key patterns that examiners test most often: for time, think about size (in for months, on for days, at for times); for place, think about the type of space (in for enclosed areas, on for surfaces, at for points); for movement, think about direction (to, into, onto, through, across). Fixed expressions and dependent prepositions require memorisation rather than rules. This test helps you identify which preposition areas need more practice — pay attention to which questions you find most difficult. Completing this assessment is excellent preparation for Cambridge and IELTS exams.

preposition + noun (all types: time, place, movement, dependent, fixed)

- 2.She has lived in this city since she was a child. (place + duration starting point)
- 3.He isn't interested in sport — he prefers reading. (dependent preposition — adjective)
- 4.We walked across the bridge and into the old town. (movement — across + into)
- 5.You should learn these phrases by heart before the exam. (fixed expression)
